Story Three
Jim grew up in Plaistow in east London, and for years he used to drive all over London working as a taxi driver, but he recently started work as an ambulance driver because he wants to work as part of a team. He's going to get further skills in the caring sector and as he isn't one to sit around and prattle, there's no question that he'll be further up the ladder this time next year. A few years ago, suicide was almost constantly on his mind. From the local library, he found out that rape crisis centres also help adults who were sexually abused as children. At this, his lowest time, he had no choice but to tackle the problem of his own child abuse, and he started to attend the crisis centre. His abuser was his sister’s father, who abused him at night whilst his mother was out working shifts at a hospital, and also an older boy abused him for a brief period when he was nine. After two years of counselling and some group work, he’s come to terms at last with his abuse. He’s also recognised patterns of suffering abuse all over again in his adult relationships, and he’s tackling those patterns, raising his standards and choosing his friends more carefully now. Now that he’s thirty-six, Jim wants to get married and have a family of his own. When he’s not working, he joins in with fund raising projects for various children's charities
