Child abuse happens wherever there is ignorance about what it is, and the ways it can be prevented. These stories were chosen to provide the broadest possible educational journey. To those with a ground knowledge, these accounts will seem both typical and exceptional. In reading these accounts,  it’s rather like listening to someone pouring their heart out over coffee, well into the early hours of the morning. Some experiences appear universal from survivor to survivor and some elements may surprise even the most knowledgeable people.

Why stories?
Everybody’s lives are a unique combination of positive and negative events, but these events can’t be separated from our life history as a whole. These separate life histories are a mix of life experiences, woven together in stories. And stories are a great way to learn about one another.
Around sixty child abuse survivors were interviewed for this project. As the accounts of their lives unravelled, six stories were chosen for the first volume. Contributors were born and brought up in the U.K. Nevertheless, testimonies just like these can be found right across the world.
